Battle Rules
The Harlequin is a battle hall focusing on providing immersive combat roleplay! Here you will find our battle rules & information on services we offer on the side.
Battle Rules:
After opening, there will be a time window to sign up for a match each night (Tuesdays). We no longer charge for entry fees!
Magic & Weapons are permitted in the arena.
Announcers will call out the contestants to enter the arena at their designated times. Only the staff's brawler, the contestant & referee may enter the arena.
The both fighters will then /random for initiation, after which the Announcer will then call for the match to begin.
Fighter emotes must be in /yell chat.
The attacker will then emote their move against the opponent and end with a /random for effect. The defender will then /random for their defense, and emote accordingly whether it was a success or fail. In the same emote the defender can then emote their attack turn and end with a /random for effect. Rinse and repeat!
Each Match will have a 20min timeframe.
The first fighter to land 3 successful hits on their opponent, or most hits within the 25min timeframe, wins the match.
The Sudden Death rule:
Sudden Death will now only occur when both fighters are even on the score! If one fighter is ahead by the end of the timer, they will automatically take the win.
Updated Role Rules regarding 0's & 999's
Rolling a 0 on defense will count as a crit failure, taking an extra hit (-2) during a match. Rolling a 0 on attack will be a miss entirely.
Rolling a 999 on attack will count as Crit Success (or LB if you will) and the opponent will take extra damage (-2)
New: Rolling a 999 on defense will open a counter move, both fighters will roll again for success. If the second roll fails, no counter will be given and it will be counted as a regular defense.
Harlequin Exclusive Events
TLC Match Rules:
Before each match begins, the Announcer will /random 3 to see which match the current fighters will play.
In a tables match, the only way to win is for a wrestler to put their opponent through a table. Fighters must first land 2 successful hits on their opponent, with the final hit being put through the table. 30min timer. If neither opponent is put through the table at the end of the timer, both fighters lose the match.
In a ladder match, the only way to win is to climb a ladder and retrieve an item hanging above the center of the ring (for example, a championship belt). Use the following /random rolls to climb the ladder: Step 1. To begin the climb, you must roll at minimum between 100 - 300 to position on the bottom steps. Step 2, you must roll a minimum between 301 - 500 to advance to the middle steps of the ladder. Step 3, You must roll a minimum of 501+ to advance to the top of the ladder and grab the crown. Both fighters technically can climb at the same time. You can attempt to knock your opponent off the ladder, in which case fighters /random for attack/defense, this however will use up your turn. If fighters are hit 3 times, they will be knocked out for 1 turn, giving the opponent an advantage to climb the ladder unchallenged. The announcers will call out in /yell chat where fighters advance on the ladder in case of any confusion. 30 minute timer.
In a chairs match, only chairs can be used as legal weapons, but the only way to win is by pinfall or submission in the ring. Fighters must first land 2 hits on their opponent before attempting a pinfall or submission finisher to win the match! 30 minute timer.
Harlequin Madness Rules:
At the start of every match, fighters will be served a shot of the house special drink, the Joker, which is known for it's various effects on everyone. Fighters will then /random 4 to determine which effect they will face throughout their match.
Table of effects /random 4
1 - Romance: You're feeling more affectionate than is normal, causing you to deal less damage to your opponents. -50 on all rolls.
2 - Rage: Super pumped to beat the snot out of your opponents. +100 on all rolls.
3 - Humor: You're feeling extremely silly this match, constantly moving about the arena and harder to hit. +100 on defense rolls.
4 - Hallucinations: You're seeing a few extra fighters than you should this match! Make sure you hit the correct one! Roll Disadvantage - Roll twice and take the lower roll.
Team Fight Tactics:
Teams must consist of 3 members
Weapons/Magic/Aether allowed
One member of each team will act as Captain
HP will differ between captains and other members
At the end of the timer, the team wins the match if all members of opposing team are knocked out, or, if the team captain is knocked out.
TFT Notes
Win Condition Change:
Instead of "At the end of the timer, the team with the most standing members win the match." The condition for this win condition to be met should be instead: two knockouts.
→ I.e. instead of Team A winning solely for the fact Team B only has 2 people standing, as 1 person was knocked out. Team A wins due too Team B only having 1 person standing once the timer is called, as 2 people were knocked out.
Captain KOs as a win can be kept.
Because of this, Captain HP has been adjusted to 6.
Tuning Healers:
A lucky tank can add only 2hp to a fight, while a lucky healer can add 4. Even if they choose to mend all instead of just 1, they're guaranteed 2hp extra into the fight, while both tanks and dps have a fail state to their special moves.
If healers always heal just 1, they have the same mitigative power as a tank; and it's further balanced by them needing to sacrifice their ability to do damage on their turn, whereas tanks have it as a reaction.
Change: Healers only heal for 1.
Changes to interactions:
If someone is trying to throw a ranged attack to another player but they've been engaged in close range by someone else, they'll roll for disadvantage on the attack.
→ I.e. Al is engaged with Caedis but Caedis went for a ranged attack. Caedis would roll with a disadvantage because someone is currently in her face.
If someone is trying to run away from another person who is currently engaged with them face to face, the person who's engaged with them can have an attack of opportunity.
→ I.e. Al is engaged with Cherry, but Cherry wants to run off and make some distance. Al would have an attack of opportunity should Cherry try to run away from Al.
Crit attack fails (rolling a 0 on attack) makes the user take damage regardless, just like in DnD.
Time limit per round: 1 hr
Team Captain HP: 6
Team Member HP: 3
Job Extras: The following abilities are considered forks; you have access to both on the fly, but using one locks you out of the other.
Tanks
• Defend (Self): As a reaction, reroll a defense roll. 1 use.
• Defend (Ally): As a reaction, roll to block an attack against an ally. 2 uses.
Healers
• Mend: heal self or ally. 2 uses.
• Mend Many: Heal allies 1hp. Single use.
Both Mend & Mend Many are auto-success, no roll needed.
DPS:
• Double Strike: Make 2 normal attacks. 1 use.
• Sweep Strike: One attack targets all enemies. 1 use.
(Crit rolls/counters do not apply in the match type. 0's or 999's are straight fails/successes)
King of the Ring:
4 way brawl
Before match begins, everyone will /random for initiation
Once turn order is declared, the first one up will begin their attack post and /random
Defender will /random for defense, and may choose to wait till their turn to write their defending post & attack post in the same turn.
The goal is to be the last one standing in the ring. You may choose whatever strategies you like to help you win that goal.
Weapons and Magic are allowed in this Match Type.
Every fighter is allowed 1 aoe move. an attack of your design that will attempt to hit every opponent in the ring.

SERIES 9: Hearts
Series 9 January 7th - March 18th
A series is a 3 month period where the new challenge now is to be in the top 3 rankings with your W/L scores.
The top 3 fighters will get to challenge the previous title holder of the card suit the series is themed after in a "Raid Battle"
NEW!: If a current reigning Ace makes it into the top 3 rankings, they have the power to nominate anyone of the top 10 rankings to take their place, since a Ace cannot claim another Ace's title.
Near the end of each series will be a tournament event. These tournaments are meant to help turn the tides on your W/L scores, or solidify your placement in the top three.
The Raid battle at the end of the series is a 1 v 3 match (Top 3 versus the card suit Champion.) All fighters will have adjusted HP and perks to make the match more interesting. The first one to take down the previous champion clames the title becoming the Series Champion. If the champion wins the match taking down the top 3 fighters, they keep their title for another cycle .
